Yes, and main/ does not allow firmware that is non-free.  I don't think 
there is any debate over this point.  I believe the firmware in the 
linux-image package is a simple packaging error and will be rectified on 
the next upload.  The correct licenses aren't even in the linux-image 
package in main, in itself a huge problem.

I actually meant to say in the original mail that I don't have *source* 
for the firmware.  I even don't have the correct license for the 
firmware, as Ubuntu is currently distributing those without a correct 
'copyright' file.

I'm not here to play 'argue about the kernel being free' -- the problem 
is that the firmware is in the wrong package, not that its in the 
distribution itself.
