I haven't yet tried Mindmanager myself, but from what I've read it seems
to be the most feature-rich MM tool on windows platforms. If I remember
correctly, Mindmanager relies heavily on MS technologies (OLE and
whatever they are called), and thus has very good integration features
with external (MS Office-)files. On the negative side, I don't think
Mindmanager will ever become platform-independent for the same reasons.
Freemind offers more basic mindmap features only, so I think it probably
is not as "advanced" as Mindmanager. But also very important for me is:
it's free (GPL), and it's java-based, so you can use it on basically any
computer. And it's actively developed, so missing features will be added
hopefully ;-)
I think it depends on what you're using mindmaps for. Take notes,
express your thoughts, make plans, or organize your work including
files? I once tried to do the latter (file organisation), and came to
the conclusion that Freemind is not the right tool for that purpose. For
the rest it's quite good IMO.

Guido
