Stop that.  It's unfair to quote completely out of context and then cite the
upgrade instructions when I've already conceded that the developers DO
insist the desktop package be installed.

Just because the upgrade instructions say to do that doesn't make it right. 
It's a #$%^&UIP{ stupid way to perform an upgrade.
