Why Ubuntu isn't for New Linux Users

I've been looking a little at the gdebi docs and don't see this as "the"
solution. Someone can fill me out on how this would work, but right
now, I can't see the whole picture.

I envision a tool that is as accessible/simple as synaptic, that can be
run, appropriate legal/ethical warnings issued, and after clicking the
appropriate options, the desired elements are retrieved/installed.

As is often the case, I'm probably missing something here, but how
exactly does gdebi go all the way and resolve this? Getting gdebi
installed from main (or including it in the distro) would be easy
enough. From there, how intutive is the process?

I am off to upgrade to Dapper and see this for myself.
