html is also voluminous, an affront to my modem which is sorely 
overtaxed now.

Some years ago I discovered that by removing HTML from certain web 
pages, I could reduce their volume by 90%.

I've not used kmail recently (as in the past year), but when I did it 
refused to display HTML (unless the user changed its settings) "for 
security reasons." Call me an old fogy if you wish, but the less 
massaging needed the better I feel.

I've never heard anyone complain about Plain Text;-)
