This could get very tiresome for some: I regularly use eight or so Linux
systems, and am regularly setting up new ones; it gets very tiresome
having to make all these systems work "just so," turning off noobie
nagware (tips of the day and such), stopping CDs and USB media getting
automounted, making konsole put its tab bar at the top like everything
else etc etc.
And don't get me started about Windows XP tour, autobreak....

That sounds way more sensible.
You could also add to account creation, "out of <tyro> 1..5 <guru>, how
experienced is this user?" and make adjustments that seem sensible: 1
gets all the handy hints, 5 gets none and others in between.
