I admit I'm not a hardware person so I can't say this with certainty, 
but it seems to me that outside of maybe a BIOS situation, an OS is not 
going to destroy hardware.

Therefore, he never left Windows in the first place he'd have still 
ended up with the dead hardware.

I actually agreed with him on some points but I can't take him seriously 
when he says Ubuntu destroyed his computers.
