I'd say it's esd. Kill esd, force gstreamer to alway use alsa. Problem
solved.

I've been bitten by this. Also, most complaints about gstreamer being
horrible with audio/video sync, is due to this. Ever since i got rid of
esd, i've been very happy with gstreamer.
