The are many GUI tools around with CLI versions whose presence is not
well documented and it is hard for new users to find out that there
could be a better, more reliable way to do things. You could have
somebody automating something with dogtail when they should be writing a
script. gconf is one that is not terribly easy to find out about the
commandline version. And the method for adding new directory trees to
the system is not easily discoverable.
