Yes, they probably figure they can cut their costs and improve quality
by tightly integrating their product with a single distribution that
they control rather than having to test it with multiple distros.

It is quite a pain from a developers point of view to solve an upstream
problem that breaks your app then have to wait years for the solution to
filter down to all the distros...
