Why do you need a third party vendor to write a small dialogue so much
that an Open Source one is such a bad thing - and is that where the
value of their video hardware lies? IE, why do you need to give them a
commercial incentive to write a dialogue instead of make better
hardware? They don't want to write dialogues, they want to make hardware
and drivers. They only write dialogues for Windows because Microsoft
isn't responsive to small UI issues like that, and doesn't support
advanced features out of the box.
If the vendor has features, the Open Source dialogue will support them
before long. And the user gets a consistent feel instead of those
'orrible, slow, confusing dialogues you get on Windows.
And again, if they want a small addition quickly, submitting a patch is
cheaper and quicker than writing a full blown dialogue, and the result
is far more professional looking. So there's your commercial incentive.
I'd hate for Ubuntu to look and feel as unprofessional and hacked
together as Windows does.
