It's not so much about off-topic mails - it's about never-ending threads
where people just can't resist putting their oar in about everything. That
results in people unsubscribing due to mail load, and less interesting
people flooding the list with 'dross' (which has less to do with content,
more to do with usefulness).

sounder may be the general chit-chat list, but if we let it turn into a
million-mail thread list, then the casual, fun, chit-chat would already be
dead.

Let's keep the signal to noise ratio *great* on this list, so we can all
enjoy it together.
