I don't think so. At $4500, what Google is paying to people who are
accepted and successfully complete their project is far more that the
bounties that actually have a dollar amount attached to them[1]. Plus,
Google pays the sponsoring organization (Ubuntu in this case) $500 for
each successful student as well. I think all the money involved here
is coming from Google's end.

This program sounds pretty awesome. Hopefully I get accepted...
