I know very well that the DCCA is not Debian. What I *am* saying is that
Debian the organization, as an entity, is far more attuned to the goals of
the DCCA (enterprise, server use) than they are of Ubuntu. I'm well aware
that not all Debian folk agree with those priorities, but overall Debian is
still dominated by the server folk, and I expect as time goes on many of
those interested in Debian on the desktop will end up coming to Ubuntu in
frustration because of that, leaving Debian even more dominated by the
server folk, and a self-reinforcing cycle will ensue. The Debian folk can
bitch all they want to about Ubuntu, but they have only themselves to blame
for Ubuntu's existence. Ubuntu's rapid success, however, is entirely due
to Mark's vision for Ubuntu (open-source and community advocacy), but with
no offense to Mark intended, *something* like Ubuntu was inevitable given
the lack of significant enthusiasm within Debian for the desktop scene.
All IMO, of course. :)
