What package(s) are needed to install nvidia support ?

I'm fairly sure dexconf can deal with 'nvidia', so it should show up in
the 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' menus.
I for sure use it in our local discover files just fine.
You'll need to install the kernel-headers files and then get the
nvidia-kernel-common and nvidia-driver source packages from debian
unstable. Then, after building them install the module source package
and build it.
Afterwards you should be able to install the kernel module package, the
glx package, and the kernel-common package.
Thanks,
