OK, and to confirm: /dev/hde and /dev/hdg match the order of the drives that
the BIOS detects during initialization (most modern BIOSes print the model
of the disk when detecting them)?

Problems like this usually occur when grub's idea of the BIOS drive order
doesn't match the BIOS'.
