I just noticed that it's not discover, but hw-detect itself which causes
it to be loaded.  This feature was added only last month:

ddetect (0.105) unstable; urgency=low
[...]

    - Try to enable firewire ethernet support if ohci1394 is loaded.
      For now it does no real detection, just loads it.

I'm still inclined to disable it for Warty unless someone has a clear reason
to keep it.
