I think if someone suggests something like this and we don't immediately
know if it will work for everyone, the best strategy is:
- make the fix and upload the package
- document the fix with a reference to the bug where this can be discussed
That way, if it breaks for someone, they will quickly find the bug
reference and will be able to comment in the right place. Or, if they
file a bug themselves, they'll hopefully find the existing one and use
that, or we can quickly mark it as a DUP.
