LD_PRELOAD work in progress

Agreed that the preload trick is not a panacea, but if overlayfs isn't
an option in some of the target environments, preload might be the only
game.

And not to get too fancy, but if the preload trick works out
for phones but not for big machines, could big machines use
overlayfs instead?  Seems like the exact method of redirection
could be kept an implementation detail to some extent.
