Yesterday I followed
http://blog.dustinkirkland.com/2014/12/its-a-snap.html and got into
OwnCloud from my browser in no time (see my comment though on
redirecting an additional port).
I now followed your steps and also that seemed to work too:

Maybe you experienced some network difficulties and the error
reporting on that is still limited?

I'm running a similar setup but with 15.04 dev version. It shouldn't
matter much though as nothing but Qemu is used from the host and
14.10's version should be fine.
