ok, i found the solution ... the complete audio stack is disabled in
the device tree until you force-enable it via the config.txt file:

ogra at pi3:~$ grep audio= /boot/uboot/config.txt 
dtparam=audio=on

ogra at pi3:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [ALSA           ]: bcm2835 - bcm2835 ALSA
                      bcm2835 ALSA

it also automatically loads the snd-bcm2835 now ...

i'll make sure thats set as default with the next gadget upload ...
