You are correct to have started there, especially the second link, where
we are all working together and figuring out best practices on how to
snap packages!

Yeah, this is one of the tradeoff of snap packages. However, the net
benefit is that you keep being in control of your own dependencies, that
means that no of those will be able to break yourself in unattended
fashion until you decide to upgrade them to a newer version.
