Thanks for the consideration.  We've looked into the performance issues,
and they're mainly because we're not making the best possible use of the
database.  Moving from HTTP to HTTPS wouldn't help much at all,
unfortunately.

There's work going on at the moment to improve our use of the database,
so watch this space for news of improved performance.
