Improving Rosetta's relation with upstream translation teams

Hi,
I'm a member of the Ubuntu Italian Team.

I was reading the wiki page pointed by Jordi...

At point 3:
"We're considering special-casing that kind of translation message, so
that people can only add to, not replace, what comes from the upstream
files."

I agree, I think that in some way Rosetta should stick upstream
translations (maybe allowing only some people to modify them... there
could always be mistakes... and obviously contact upstream team). This
is an important point and is correlated with the 5th point in that page.

Point 7: is it really necessary to have two separate PO? I think that
this will complicate a little the translation, as it will be necessary
to keep track of two different PO of the same app (maybe in different
pages of Rosetta).

As of the italian team (for points 1, 2 and 3) we're doing a lot of work
with upstream, uploading po files, checking them and translate what is
Ubuntu specific or is fuzzy.
We coordinate through a mailing list (or at least we try :) for
everything: new po files to upload, terminology discussion, works to be
done, what to improve...
For keeping the team under control, we have set up a kind of policy: for
becoming a new member it is necessary to have your own translation
checked by an approved translator, and you have to follow the
"translation guidelines" (at least for Ubuntu... Kubuntu has not a lot
of contributors, yet).

Hope this could help...

Bye!
