Cessation of activities by MOTU Council

During the 21st January 2010 MOTU Council "call" (1), there was
discussion of the pending expiry of the memberships of four of the
seven current MOTU Council members (two to expire 27th January, and
two 31st January). In light of the ongoing discussions regarding the
future of MOTU (2, 3), it was decided that without clear definition of
"MOTU" and "MOTU Council", and the distinct possibility that both
would no longer exist in the near future, it was decided that
beginning a selection process to replace the four expiring members may
be confusing, both for those volunteering to hold the position, and
those selecting from the available choices. As a result, MOTU Council
will be unable to reach quorum, and must cease activities.

The last MOTU Council meeting to be held with current members will
be on 28th January, at 17 UTC, during which business will be conducted
as usual. The scheduled MOTU Council meeting for 12th February will
not be held. Meetings may resume if it is determined that there shall
be a MOTU Council, and new members are drafted so that quorum can be
met.

As a special exception, considering the late notice of
cancellation of the 12th February meeting, candidates will be accepted
for application through the end of this week (22nd January), rather
than requiring the usual full week review period.

Those interested in the future of MOTU and the MOTU Council are
encouraged to attend the coming Developer Membership Meetings, the
next being scheduled for 2nd February at 15 UTC in #ubuntu-meeting.
