I agree that the wonderful thing about MOTU is the way it, like 
core-dev, takes a systemic view of the whole user experience. We don't 
want to compromise that.

But, at the same time, we want to encourage people who do just have a 
specific focus area to participate in that.

The thing I most want to avoid is the idea that anyone, even if they 
have a focus area and limited permissions, has an *exclusive* lock on 
that. Someone from MOTU should feel empowered to fix an issue with a 
package and not feel like they are treading on someone else's turf. We 
want to invite specialists to participate, on the understanding that 
they are part of a broader, collaborative team, albeit with a specific 
interest.
