Thanks for your question.
I wouldn't be confortable in commenting on the MOTU Team as a whole in
the name of Debian, but I can certainly comment on the always rising
number of MOTUs who I see hanging around in Debian communities: there's
a continuous flow of skilled people seemingly falling from the sky who
are interested in pushing Ubuntu fixes to Debian, reducing work
duplication with shared maintenance, or simply interested in enhancing
Debian.
I witness that the MOTU Team is the source of this new flow of Debian
and Ubuntu developers and I can only conclude that the MOTU Team is a
good place on the path joining us. In my eyes, this is the result of a
better teaching organization but also of a friendlier atmosphere.
I'm impressed by the work that some MOTUs such as Sebastian Dröge or
Laurent Bigonville are investing in Debian and Ubuntu (at the same
time!), and I'm happy that the general trend means more developers and
more skilled developers for both distros.
