Greetings all
I write to you all to present to you, my core-dev application. My wiki(1) and launchpad packaging(2) pages tells you a little about myself, and what I've been doing in the community, and my future plans. I'll go over what I intend to do as a member of core-dev later in this email.

First of all, my sponsors. These people have been very kind enough to upload my work into main, and it has been a great pleasure and privelage to work with them all. In no particular order, they are:
* Colin Watson
* Daniel Chen
* Daniel Holbach
* Sebastien Bacher
* Steve Kowalik
* Sarah Hobbs

I have likely forgotten someone along the way, so please speak up if you are reading this, and would like to have your say about any work of mine that you have examined.

My primary interest in getting involved with Ubuntu development was to help improve its accessibility for people with disabilities. This work is constantly ongoing, and will be my primary focus for working in main, at least in the short term future. As the leader of the accessibility team, I will be able to make direct changes myself, keeping software up to date, and triaging bugs, and later, be a sponsor for those who choose to get involved with the accessibility team, allowing them to get involved with making Ubuntu the most accessible linux distribution available today.

Since also being involved with the Ubuntu Studio project, I have come to appreciate what is required for derivatives to co-exist in the archive, and still have room to move in allowing different customizations for desktop, artwork, etc. Longer term, I hope to help derivatives get a foothold in the Ubuntu community, whether they be based on main alone, or main and universe. Where possible, I will help with any changes that may be required to packages in main, to allow more flexibility for derivatives to distinguish themselves, yet be an integral part of the Ubuntu community and development efforts.

Another key interest of mine is audio, and the infrastructure required to make it usable, and useful to users. Having maintained a repository of packages for Slackware for a time, I'm quite well aware of the needs of users when it comes to audio, as well as the work that is required to track the upstream projects for new developments, and important bugfixes. I intend to start taking greater notice of such projects as PulseAudio, and the userspace alsa packages such as alsa-lib and alsa-utils. While I do not yet have a full understanding of the inner workings of these packages, I hope to gain such an understanding by starting to work on simple bug fixing tasks, and increase my involvement with development, as my understanding and knowledge of these packages grows. In addition, I intend to help both in Ubuntu, and upstream where possible, to make the audio experience for GNOME, KDE, and XFCE as good as possible, so that while the users of each environment may use different applications, the underlying audio infrastructure is strong, and flexible enough to allow for users to configure their audio experience to suit their tastes.

I love Ubuntu, and what it has done for me, and for many others. Being a member of core-dev to me, means directly being able to help potentially millions of users in getting the best out of computing possible. I look forward in continuing to give as much time as I can, to helping better Ubuntu both technically, and the community.

Thank you all in advance for your time.
