memory for Lubuntu. It would be insufficient for the main Ubuntu
version, or for Kubuntu possibly. Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu Mate,
and probably UbuntuStudio should work fine on it. I prefer
Lubuntu.

It's probably best to install Lubuntu 15.10, and upgrade to 16.04
this spring.

To install, create a live (bootable) USB drive. Use UNetBootin
(you'll have to install it) to create the bootable USB. The live
USB creator provided (Startup Disk Creator) is notoriously
unreliable.
I have a similar HP NetBook (same memory & processor).
Its processor is Intel Atom, dual core, 1.6 gigahertz
speed.

That machine works fine with Lubuntu (the ordinary version -
not a special version). The machine has plenty of power for
Lubuntu, and also works fine with Ubuntu Mate.

Where it doesn't have a CD or DVD drive, it has to be
installed using a live USB, and you can't play DVDs or CDs
on it.

It works fine with all of the usages you mentioned (as well
as audio/MIDI music). I use Firefox for browsing on it. I
don't use FaceBook, so I can't vouch for that. I haven't
actually used LibreOffice on it, but I don't see any reason
why it wouldn't work on it.

The biggest challenge with that machine (in my experience)
is its small screen dimensions. The ability of Linux to
allow you to hold-down the Alt-key, then click anywhere in
the window to drag the window to a new position sometimes
can be useful, or even vital.
