Israel:

Thanks again for the follow-up--I tried to follow the PPCFAQ on how to set up an xorg.conf file . . . so I got the console generated file set up, but so far it hasn't made a difference. Seems like what isn't mentioned in the FAQ is that "X" has to be stopped before an xorg.conf file can be generated??? Once I "stopped lightdm" I was able to make the file on the terminal . . . but so far it hasn't solved the jagged color issues, the suspend, or empty window issues.

I'm away from that iBook now, but perhaps I'll look at what the "linux on mac" offerings have that are different, and try to squeeze that into the file. It probably has to do with screen "refresh rates" or Hrz/vert. Or I'll try to duckduckgo-ogle a few things and see what turns up . . . good to know that it isn't necessary to reboot to test out the file . . . .
Just find the one that is closest and try it out. You can try it
without rebooting. If that one works, YAY!!
If it doesn't try another one that is close.
You can always duckduckgo for any other leads on your specific
I simple copied the downloaded i.e.

sudo mv ~/Downloads/filename.txt /etc/X11/xorg.conf

where filename is the actual name of the file you download
Then go to your TTY and restart lightdm

sudo lightdm restart

or you can stop it and then start it (what I typed in the first
      e-mail)
Look to see if any of those files have the same resolution, or
look for a model that has the same graphics card.
