Hi Anders,
I misunderstood you, I thought you meant the shutdown buttons in
lightdm.
But, you are meaning the logout dialog. It was unclear to me what
you meant.

I am sorry for misunderstanding you, now I see!!! Thanks for your
reply!

You may be able to edit the shutdown menu, to simply log out the
user, though you may be right, there could be no way to do what
you are looking for.
I made the exec bold...

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Shutdown
Name[zh_TW]=關機
Comment=Shutdown or Reboot
Icon=system-shutdown-panel
Exec=lxsession-default quit
NoDisplay=true

But I expect, that if you can do it easily with XFCE, then that is
the proper choice for your scenario. It is always so wonderful to
have choices!!
We can run the same OS with different DE for different needs!

Thanks for mailing us back. It is a good lesson to me, that I
need ask more questions to understand much better what someone is
talking about SPECIFICALLY :)

I have no idea how you got that from what I have written.
My question has nothing to do with starting X. That is not a
problem at all. The problem is that the logout menu shows the
shutdown/reboot buttons, which I do not want unprivileged
users to see. The logout menu is a part of LXDE, not the login
manager (lightdm or slim). In particular the buttons are a
part of the lxsession-logout package.

Having researched LXDE a bit more, it does not seem
possible, and it seems that Lubuntu is not really an option
for running a terminal server, without modifying code, which I
do not want to do. I'm gonna go with XFCE instead. There I can
set a policy with polkit, which will at least grey out the
shutdown/reboot buttons (rendering them unclickable). Thanks
for your replies and suggestions :)
