Hi,

I have upgraded a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 laptop (1 Gig Ram and 1.7GHz Celeron CPU) from Ubuntu 13.10 (Unity desktop) to Lubuntu 14.04. I used the CD to do an upgrade rather than a fresh install. Here are my experiences:-

1. The upgrade went well until the very end where I got the message "Restoring previously installed packages...". This took one hour and fifteen minutes to complete (total install time of just over two hours).

2. The upgrade asked me for new user name, computer name, and log-in details. I would have expected the installer to copy these details across as this was an upgrade rather than a fresh install. I entered exactly the same information as before. What would have happened to my data on the home partition if I had entered a different user name, would it have been preserved? This behaviour may confuse new or inexperienced users.

3. The upgrade left the Unity desktop, and all of its applications, on the machine as an option that I could select at log-in.

4. Firefox and Chromium will not play any Flash content even though the machine says that it has Flash Player installed.

5. My biggest concern is that the finished install of Lubuntu 14.04 runs no faster than when using the Unity desktop. This is surprising as I have another old laptop with half the RAM and a slower processor that runs much faster. I have tried to remove Unity and its associated processes but it has made no difference to the speed. My next step is to try a full fresh install of Lubuntu 14.04 sometime in the next couple of days.

Regards,
