* This is about the system that comes with the 9w installer *

I managed to update/upgrade my own build of Lubuntu Core with your
previous non-pae kernel to today's daily build. There were some extra
steps to do it.

The system wanted to upgrade to a new pae kernel, which could not be
completed because the system refused to do it without the pae flag (even
when running your non-pae kernel. The result was a borked installation.

So I installed fake-pae, and booted into the 'original' pae kernel
3.13.0.17 (while your non-pae kernel is 3.13.5 in my own build of
Lubuntu Core.

And now it could update/dist-upgrade to 3.13.0.23 and 'today's daily
built' and the system works as it should, both with your non-pae kernel
and with 3.13.0.23 :-)

-o-

Next I should upgrade to your new non-pae kernel, and I have good hope
that it will work too.

Best regards
Nio
