I could be wrong here, but if my slightly faulty memory is correct, the reason we cannot include VLC as default is because it has the 'restricted extras' built in to it, which cause a problem in terms of licensing it to be included as a default application.<div>

</div>I see that VLC has a lot of dependencies. That might be a barrier to<br>
swapping it in place of Mplayer. Totem seems to have fewer. Is there a<br>
way to poll the APT database to show conclusively which is the smallest<br>
and with the fewest dependencies?<br>
