<br>Have you tried to format it the way I explained? create new partition table, etc?<br>If that failed, I still have another way which is using the "dd" command to write Zero on each and every sector on your HDD. One must be very careful with this commend. I once posted on Ubuntu Forum and one of the Moderators removed the post if I remember correctly.<br>
Please keep in mind that we are trying every possible approach and it may help and it may not so you need to understand that before trying anything :)<br>For me, I never give up and I always like to try fixing things but sometimes, we need to know whether it is worth the time and effort or not? if it is for learning, I do anything and everything :)<br>
<br>If your HDD is failing and dying, I believe the "dd" command will stop and won't finish - it happened with me once on a failing HDD.<br><br>I'm not sure how to find out where exactly the bad sectors are? I guess there is a way but I'm sorry, I have no time now to check that.<br>
<br>Sometimes, connecting the HDD on a separate Data Cable will make some difference? or maybe that was for Master and Slave? this is from 10 years back - heard it from someone - so not sure how valid and correct that is.<br>
<br>You can also check the HDD Temp. Disk Utility can show you that or you can install "hddtemp".<br><br>I was wondering ... is your Windows System Faster than Lubuntu on the same machine?<br>I'm talking about overall speed not something particular?!<br>

It isn't choppy all the time - it is just faster, but it is a bit faster on Windows, but it is ok now. Maybe it has to do with LAN card, rooter, how knows? <br>Could fix what exactly? you want both on the same HDD? or you want to keep each one on its own HDD? you can do this and you can keep them both on the same HDD but of course different partitions. I have more than 8 systems on ONE HDD with of course different partitions and everything is okay. Having separate HDD is not bad idea at all :)<br>
<br>I've leaned an amazing thing while skimming through Arch Website. "Unused RAM is wasted RAM". <br>Having that said, don't worry about how much memory a certain application is consuming as long as you have enough RAM. Even if you think you don't have enough RAM, Swap Partition is there for a reason :)<br>
<br>As for your CPU, if you notice that it's 100% for a long time then you may need to worry but if it is 100% for few seconds, that shouldn't be a problem :)<br><br>Freezing for a second or two could be because of many reasons. Are you talking about an installed system or you are using the LiveCD/LiveUSB? a second or two is not something you need to worry about. You need to worry when your system starts to crash, freezing up continuously, etc ... then you need to worry about that. After all, as long as we are here, you shouldn't be worry at all.<br>

I took it to someone to check it and he asked me to through it away because it's hopeless. That story was in 2004 and that HDD is working until now.
