If the file you're installing ends with '.deb' (a Debian package), use 
gdebi to install it.  There have been continuing problems with the 
gnome-software application installing packages not from the repository.

You may need to first install the gdebi package, since it appears not to 
be installed by default in recent levels of Lubuntu.
