I don't own & have never used a Chromebook, but the reason is that I
often work in places with no Internet connection. Indeed having no
Internet is a lot better for my productivity.
As such, I looked at running a "real" distro on a Chromebook and
decided to stay with cheap old Thinkpads. Solid, reliable, 100%
standalone.
Currently I use an X200 I bought for GBP £125 in 2014. I am
considering an X201 as they are down to about the same price now.
Ubuntu works flawlessly -- even the fingerprint reader.
