[lubuntu-users] Broken lubuntu

Hello Oscar,
If is installed firmware for legacy b43, then there can be try to use legacy module (driver) by modprobe and try to configure it with network manager.

I'm using WiFi on similar card without issue. New b43 is not blacklisted on my machine, but legacy old driver is forced to load. I had used that solution one year ago when I had used Lubuntu kernel, later I had migrated to Vanilla due to easier management of missing sound patches (not this case, but that is reason for different kernel).

So, after installing firmware, you can try to test command

sudo modprobe -v b43legacy

and follow network manager settings. If it will work, we can make it permanent.

My hardware:

# lspci -s 0001:10:12 -v
0001:10:12.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

It is BCM4311 802.11 a/b/g
Broadcom corporationThanks for your support, been a little absent minded, my meemaa has traveled to the great table at Valhalla.Oscar Carserud

Hello Genleman,
Regarding module b43, there will be good to know which Broadcom card is in that notebook. Oldest notebooks like mine require b43-legacy module (also with proprietary firmware) to be acrivated and new b43 module to be blacklisted.

So, which WiFi card is in place in this case?

Peter.

Yes I got it. I'm not sure why your wifi driver is blacklisted but reinstalling it might solve...

sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer

and then reboot

sudo reboot
If you have a separate partition for /home you need to do some cleaning (removing some hidden configuration files) before doing a fresh install... Tell me if this is the case.

You got it?

Yes I need help-

Computer:Dell pp09s

When choosing Shutdown or Reebot, it goes to a spin. nothing writes to disk, only showing a neverending shutdown screen. But what is most anoying is that when you do a clean install of 15,10 and let it update (sudo apt-get update) thepossibility to access wifi is gone. It can not find anny wifi connestions. It states:Ethernet Network (grayed out)disconnected (grayed out)

I can still connest via ethernet cable.

Do you need some help? We need more specific details to help you, e.g. what version you were running and what version you updated for...

You might want to make a fresh install only with LTS versions in order to have no issues when updating lubuntu... (My reccomendation of course).
