Hi,

Depending on how 'basic' you want and if you intend to install a different
DE to that which lubuntu ships with, you may be better to use the 'mini /
netboot' ISO. It does require ethernet connection, it is covered at [1].

A second option (if you want language support and WiFi from the beginning)
is to use the server image and just select the minimum server option[2].

For xombrero, a trusted lubuntueer keeps a more up to date image in his ppa
[3].

Lubuntu, and *buntu in general is extremely flexible. Lubuntu users do tend
to be adventurous spirits, hence the write ups on grabbing the bits you
need and then customising.. To finish off, there is also Advanced
Methods[4].

These links should provide enough reading material for you to make a plan
as to how to make your 'own' system.
