I have a bash shell script to help me with backups. It uses the tar command
to backup directories to a .tar.gz file. And I can tell it which .tar.gz
files to create. My hard disc is big enough for me to keep spare copies of
the .tar.gz files and I regularly backup the .tar.gz files to USB flash
drives and occasionally DVD-R discs. It's not the simplest of bash scripts
to read so I'd recommend reading up about the tar command.
