You have worked around the mtab bug :-)

In my Toshiba laptop and in older computers too, Lubuntu Xenial boots
into the Lubuntu graphical user interface.

What is written to the screen? What can you do there?

Maybe you have problems with the graphics. What graphics chip is there
in the NB? Maybe you have another problem. Is Lubuntu 15.10 working for
you, or must you use an older version?
