Ctrl+space works, as do other shortcuts without letters.

as I said, the keyboard switches between Hebrew and English, but when the
keyboard is set to Hebrew the shortcuts that require English letters
(Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and so forth) won't work.

Other Hebrew speaking users I know reported similar problems, apparently
from the more recent ubuntu releases.

To help pinpoint the problem, the solution I've found (which is a bit of a
mess) is running a file on startup that goes:

(sleep 3; setxkbmap -option grp:alt_shift_toggle "us,il") &

This seems to work perfectly. Which means, I presume, that lubuntu - and
maybe ubuntu in general - uses a different method to switch languages, with
the aforementioned bug.
