upgrade from Lubuntu 12 LTS to Lubuntu 14 LTS on the extremely old desktop?

Oh, yeah right on :)  I am used to installing things to build them as I
make them.
"I need #include <X11/xpm.h>  better sudo apt-get install libxpm-dev"
