Hi Phill and Lubuntu users,
Both work for me ('Unetbootin' and the 'OBI').
But I think you mean 'mkusb' and not the OBI, because mkusb can install
from iso files, while the OBI installs only from tarballs.

General comment:
A. There are two advantages with Unetbootin
1. There is a version to be installed in Windows, so it is a good tool
for people who start from there and want to try linux.
2. It can create persistent live systems.
B. There is one big advantage with mkusb
*. It is very reliable (has a high success rate) due to the simple
engine under the hood, dd, which clones the iso file exactly for each
bit. mkusb is 'only' a shell to help you avoid overwriting drives by
mistake.
