I correct myself: fancontrol does have to be installed separately. It
includes pwmconfig.
When I ran sudo pwmconfig, it reported "There are no pwm-capable sensor
modules installed."
This despite the fact that sensors-detect *did* find a sensor that it
could use and configured the coretemp module to load in support of that.
I don't have a conclusion yet, but clearly I would have hoped for
pwmconfig to find something that fancontrol could govern.
