Black and Grey bar in Firefox

I did an installation on an old eMachines computer that exhibits the
problem. I replaced Firefox with Chromium, which was unusable with the
768MB RAM. I tried Midori on which didn't work for the student's final
exams online. So I reinstalled Firefox, but the issues remain. I'm good on
my Acer netbook, so I thought it was a videocard issue on the eMachines
unit. Seems I'm not alone.
