Reinstalling from the ISO of yesterday's daily build of 14.10 solved my
problem of the Lubuntu Software Center. All software is now shown there.

After switching to the right NVDIA driver 14.10 works well sofar except
that Light Locker (inconsistently called Screen Locker in LXSession >
Autostart) remains active even when the slider button shows it is
switched off.
So I have to unlock each time the screen saver is activated.
