software center in 14.10

John,
The problem is that the Lubuntu Software Center when reached through the 
menu in 14.10 alpha (downloaded today) only shows the installed software 
but nothing else.
To get packages with the terminal there is no problem and I have already 
installed VLC with Synaptic.
