Audio malfunctioning

I did as you suggested.
Nothing was muted in alsamixer. However the internal speakers mute 
automatically when you plug into the head phone jack.
As it should be I guess.
I do have pulse audio volume control installed already.
Below are links to some screen shots of pulse volume control while 
playing audio. Both playback tab and output device tab.
You can see there is a signal going to the headphone output.

When plugging into the headphone jack it acts similar to what you would 
get anytime you plug a stereo male jack into a mono female input. It 
almost works briefly until you push it all the way in due to the double 
tip on the male jack.  It makes me think that there is a quirk with the 
stereo signal going to the female headphone input.
