removing blank application icons from the menu

Hi,

I have some blank application icons in my menu. Where do you remove them? I run Lubuntu 12.04. I have purged one of the applications with dpkg, but that didn't work. And there doesnt seem to be a gui interface that gives me any options. There must be something obvious I'm not seeing.
